PALM SPRINGS — The former Palm Springs estate of the popular entertainer Dinah Shore has sold for $5.2 million.

…possibly to “The Wolf of Wall Street” star Leonardo DiCaprio.

The sale of the 1.34-acre estate in the Old Las Palmas area closed Tuesday, said Rita Kurtz, listing agent from Surterre Properties Inc. The home was originally offered on Jan. 16 for $5.5 million. Kurtz said Wednesday that she, the listing agent Paul Pedrazas of Windermere, and the sellers were asked to sign confidentiality agreements that prevent them from disclosing the identity of the buyer.

The estate was originally designed by famed architect Donald Wexler for Dinah Shore and was built in 1965. The 7,000-square-foot home has six bedrooms, 7½ bathrooms, pool house, tennis court and detached gym. Renovations updated the single-story mansion’s sleek interiors to reflect the original midcentury architecture. The sellers were Ben Lipps and his wife, Jude. Dr. Lipps was the chief executive of kidney-dialysis company Fresenius Medical Care. The couple bought the tennis estate for $4.9 million in April 2011.

Rumors that DiCaprio had bought the Dinah Shore estate surfaced during Modernism Week bus tours of iconic Palm Springs properties. In December, DiCaprio sold his beachfront Malibu Colony estate at 23736 Malibu Colony Road for $17.35 million, Curbed LA reported. The buyer of the Dinah Shore home was represented by the trust Malibu Colony PCH Property LLC. The trust’s address is the same one as Appian Way, a DiCaprio-owned production company in West Hollywood. A representative of the trust, Robert Hrtica, is a cousin of DiCaprio. An email to DiCaprio’s publicist and a message left for Hrtica were not immediately returned.
